A Super Useful Android App to Learn English Alone

As a learner of English, we often find ourselves facing some difficulties in improving our skills. We may have some problems in enhancing our speaking skills for example. We can’t deny that speaking is the skill that most people consider hard. But… What are the problems? When we look deeper to find them, it seems that they are always the same. The same things that people normally have in learning a language. Those problems in improving speaking are the lack of listening, vocabulary, confidence, and having no one to practice with or to talk to. Do you know how a baby learns to speak? They listen a lot. Btw, I don’t want to talk about linguistics here, just google it. Now, let’s talk about confidence and having no one to talk to or practice with. About confidence, people don’t improve much because they’re afraid of making mistakes that other people will judge their ability. They worry about their pronunciation, grammar, and some other things. You know what? Learning is a process, and in that process, we’ll make a lot of mistakes. About having no one to talk to, I don’t think it’s a big deal these days. The Internet and smartphone have become parts of our life. We just need to be smart to harness all the resources and to maximize its potential to support our learning. Okay, so now I’m going to tell you about a super useful android app to learn English alone. Why an app? Because I believe this will help you overcome those problems (lack of confidence and having no one to talk to), as well as improving your listening and speaking. With this app, you just need to learn by yourself, no other people needed. The app’s name is English Listening and Speaking. I’ve used and tried its features, and it’s awesome. You can do a lot of things with this app, such as to improve listening, speaking, vocabulary as well as pronunciation. Now, let’s take a look at the main interface. It consists of Conversations, Short Stories, Vocabulary, Sentences - Verbs, English Pronunciation, Quick Lessons, IELTS Practice, and Others sections.

If you go to the daily topics in the Conversations, it’ll look like this. It contains many topics such as education, hobbies, and weathers along with the dialogue’s transcription. To practice your listening, just tap the play button without reading the text first. If it’s too hard for you, you can also make the dialogue slower by tapping the slow button. You can also tap the word to open up a built-in English-English dictionary.

New let's move on to the speaking part. To practice speaking, tap on the Practice tab. There, you can choose to become speaker A or B. Sadly, this app doesn’t provide a voice recording feature in the practice tab. It means that we can’t listen to our voice later. However, there are good apps for that, but I'll keep them for later. Stay posted.

Basically, what you're doing is learning English using imitation technique. You listen to the conversation and try to speak like the way they speak. Find out more about this imitation technique on Google.. Yes, google it yourself.
